Terms & Conditions

Please read Jennie of the Jungle's (JOTJ) terms & conditions carefully before submitting your online reservation form. By checking the box besides the words 'I have read and agree to these legal terms & conditions' on the online application form, you agree to the following terms & conditions:

The volunteer is solely responsible for catching all flights and in-country transport arranged by JOTJ. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to obtain and carry all necessary documents when traveling. While JOTJ may advise the volunteer on required travel documentation, she is not responsible for any supporting documents necessary for the volunteer's travel needs or other purposes. Volunteers are responsible for ensuring their travel documents are up to date and valid for travel.

JOTJ does not provide the volunteer with insurance of any kind. Travel insurance is mandatory for each volunteer, and the volunteer will purchase this prior to departing on the trip. The volunteer is solely responsible for evaluating and determining the type, extent and level of any insurance coverage for their planned volunteer travel period. However, it must cover their entire travel period.

Details of package prices and their inclusions/exclusions are listed on JOTJ’s website. When invoiced upon application of the project by JOTJ, the volunteer will receive a price quote and a duration in which this quote is valid. After that duration, if a payment is not set up by the volunteer, package prices are subject to change with any change in flight prices or currency rate. All changes will be updated as necessary on the JOTJ website.

When invoiced by JOTJ, price quotations are good for the period of time specified in the invoice. Any payments made after the date specified are subject to change, of which the volunteer will be notified and a new invoice sent.

The volunteer must pay for any transfer fees associated with making payment to JOTJ by bank or wire transfer.

Payment Plans

A down payment to cover the cost of flight reservation for the volunteer is required as first payment on a payment plan. Thereafter, payments will be made over a period discussed and decided by JOTJ and the volunteer. Payments will be automatically debited from the volunteer’s account on a monthly basis, for the payment period decided. Failure to make payment or defaulting on any payment due will result in loss of placement with refunds only given in accordance with JOTJ’s refund policy.

Packages are not transferrable to other persons.

Refund Policy

Due to JOTJ purchasing flights in advance for her volunteers, JOTJ cannot offer refunds on flight purchases or down payments (first payments) of her payment plans. No package refunds will be given for cancellations later than 60 days before the project start date. For cancellations before this time, a $150 fee will be assessed . This policy also applies to cancellations or interruptions due to circumstances  outside JOTJ’s control (although in such a case JOTJ will attempt to find alternative volunteer projects or other travel activities in the same region and will give a credit towards the cost of an alternative project at a later date or in a different country.

JOTJ reserves the right to cancel or curtail a program if, in her sole discretion, she believes that circumstances warrant it. This shall include Force Majeure, including but not limited to Acts of God, war, acts of terrorism, riot or civil commotion, fire, strike or government intervention).  In such event, the volunteer shall be entitled to a return of any monies paid less any irrecoverable amount spent by JOTJ.

If the volunteer’s behavior leads to dismissal from the project or if the volunteer chooses to leave the project early for any reason, JOTJ shall not be responsible for any part of the volunteer's travel, lodging or subsistence arrangements outside the JOTJ program.

By applying to volunteer you agree to receive online interactions, text messages, and phone calls from JOTJ.

Personal Risks

The volunteer acknowledges and accepts the responsibilities and risks associated with their agreement to travel to, temporarily live in and provide volunteer services in a developing country. Such travel and volunteer work can often be hazardous and involve risk and inherently dangerous activities, and place the volunteer in personal peril, both foreseen and unforeseen, all of which are fully accepted by and solely assumed by the volunteer. The standard of living, including food, hygiene and accommodation in the project country may be below the general standards of the volunteer's own country.

The volunteer agrees, therefore, to the maximum extent permissible by law, not to hold JOTJ liable for any loss or harm the volunteer may suffer, including but not limited to loss caused directly or indirectly by: personal injury, emotional injury, death, illness or disease, damage to or loss of property, hostage situations, war or terrorism, or natural disasters.

The volunteer agrees to indemnify JOTJ against any and all liability which JOTJ incurs arising directly or indirectly out of, or in connection (in any way) with, the volunteer's travel to, living in and providing services in the project country.

Drug and Alcohol Use

The volunteer must abide by the rules put in place by the partner organization or host family as regards alcohol consumption. Drug use (unless prescribed by a doctor) is strictly prohibited and will result in instant dismissal from the program.
